Our Mission

Representing New Zealand’s ICT industry, we will take leadership by collaborating with business, aligned associations, communities and Government to promote the use of ICT to enhance our country’s competitiveness for the betterment of all New Zealanders, and growth of ICT industry.

Vision

NZICT will be the champion for the leveraging of quality ICT to increase the country’s global economic ranking.

Strategic Work Areas

The NZICT Group has sub committees set up focused on five strategic work areas.  The sub committees consist of NZICT members who choose which work areas they wish to participate in.

Near Future Digital Priorities

Aligned with the five Strategic Work Areas the NZICT Group has identified the following Near Future Digital Priorities:

National Plan Provide clarity around government ICT priorities, investments and measurements.
Broadband Build local and international capacity, and leverage to drive social and economic growth.
Government as the Champion Policy and budget allocations promote electronic delivery of citizen services.
Skills & Education Develop curriculum and teacher competence to deliver digitally capable workforce and ICT career pathways.
Innovation R&D allocations support practical Broadband innovations, with an accessible commercialisation framework.
ICT: Government Engagement Form an industry panel to work directly with Government to improve the quality and returns from ICT investments.

 Initiatives:

  • Working with Government and its agencies to drive job growth and productivity in the New Zealand economy, contributing toward a common measurable outcome - Gross Domestic Product.
  • Ensure that the Government’s broadband initiative is well targeted and maximises the potential benefits to New Zealanders.
  • Promoting the use of ICT products and services as a means to significantly improve New Zealand’s public and private sector productivity.
  • Developing a strong cohesive NZ ICT industry involving businesses of all sizes and the global pool of NZ ICT talent, operating in a highly professional and ethical environment.
  • Promoting a positive regulatory framework that addresses the issues and challenges of a 21st century information economy.
  • Promoting the evolution of globally competitive NZ ICT firms by the development of a well defined innovation supply chain, embracing research, funding, intellectual property, skills, distribution and infrastructure.
  • Ensuring more New Zealanders see ICT as a fulfilling career and have the skills to participate fully in the industry, including working closely with the education sector and respective agencies to increase the relevance and quality of training available.
