Wireless Community

Welcome to the NZICT Wireless Forum.  Our goal is to support and facilitate economic growth in New Zealand through wireless and broadband innovation. We undertake this in three ways, by supporting:

  1. The Innovation Conversation: The Forum is a platform for members and industry to network and collaborate on a monthly basis through its Wireless Wednesdays in both Auckland and Wellington.
  2. In fact, we have numerous examples of innovative ideas that have been conceived at a Wireless Wednesday event, and are now in the global market as a commercial product or service.

  3. Collaboration: No one company, or group, has all the capability required to get to market in today’s chaotic world. As such, the Forum enthusiastically embraces networking and collaborating with other industry/user groups, government and non-government organisations to facilitate Wireless and Broadband Innovation.
  4. We also link to New Zealand Trade and Enterprise to support the internationalisation of innovations conceived by our members, and to integrate with their programmes that support the creation and growth of New Zealand technology companies.

  5. Showcase: In addition, as a show case for Wireless and Broadband innovation, the forum supports an annual event, ‘Convergence Oceania’.
  6. This event is designed to provide a space to show case New Zealand’s innovation, facilitate the conversation between industry, research and education in Wireless and Broadband technologies, and provide a platform for multinational technology vendors to show case the latest and emerging technologies in New Zealand.

The Wireless Forum has been established in the spirit of mutual co-operation so that parties interested in learning, solution development, collaboration and networking are able to share information within both the New Zealand and global economy. Our members include:

  • Business
  • Developers
  • Vendors
  • Carriers
  • Educators
  • Researchers
  • Consumers
  • Media
  • Technology Exporters

Broadband Investment Initiative

Posted in General on April 14th, 2009 by Susan – Comments Off

In April 2009, the NZICT Group delivered a submission to the New Zealand Government on their Broadband Investment Initiative.

Summary from Brett O’Riley, CEO:

I am pleased that we have been able to put together a forward thinking view of how New Zealand can capitalise on the proposed Broadband Infrastructure, and transform the country into a truly ICT literate and capable powerhouse.

Thank you to those NZICT Members and related organisations who provided input; and to the Establishment Board for their oversight and input in the process.

It is pleasing to see constructive input from the submissions from other major players in the process, and the acknowledgement of the importance of this infrastructure for New Zealand’s future.

The hard work truly begins now and we have a very active programme of meetings organised over the next two weeks, many of them in Wellington, to follow up on the themes and initiatives raised in our submission.
