New Zealand’s Best IT Talent Pool and Job Site Launched
When NZICT Group was formed one of the key issues identified for us to address was the skills shortage. To some extent the impact of the global financial crisis provided some temporary relief as employees and contractors hunkered down. But all of the signs are that the shortage has returned with a vengeance and the buoyant Australian market continues to lure talent off-shore.
The NZICT Group has undertaken a number of programmes to address this including:
- Involvement in the development of the new Digital Technology curriculum for secondary schools and teacher professional development.
- Development of an ICT labour market plan with a pan-government working group.
- Work with tertiary and training providers on creating better pathways for students into employment.
The latest initiative we are supporting is a new ICT focussed talent pool called Imagine Us, www.imagineus.co.nz . We were approached by one of our members, Talent Point, with the concept of a talent pool that not only sought to match ICT candidates with ICT firms, but also sought to educate those candidates and the wider business market about the opportunities in our sector.
